A New Name for The Reason

[00:00:00] Thanks for being here today. I wanted to explain why I've chosen to rename The Reason.

[00:00:13] Sometimes life just gets in the way, doesn't it? And then it totally disrupts your plans. In my case, disruption came in the form of some tech issues, which meant I lost my next episode. We were in the throes of planning a family wedding at our house, and then my husband and I both fell foul of the dreaded covid.

[00:00:30] At the same time, one of the podcast guests I was just about to interview underwent an unexpected major career change themselves.

[00:00:37] Now, as is so often the case when life gets in the way like that, it can actually turn out to be a blessing.

[00:00:43] Disruption creates a pause, and with it, the time and space to hear that little voice of disquiet and to reflect on what might be missing.

[00:00:52] Now, I realize that while The Reason put the spotlight firmly on the "Why" behind someone's career, it did little to help [00:01:00] people to understand the "How" and "What" of career change itself, and I realized I really needed to include that too. While the reason is what ultimately gives us intrinsic career success and happiness, both finding our reason and developing it means our story and the way we tell it needs to change too.

[00:01:17] And it's that I wanted to shine a light on.

[00:01:20] So several months later, after some more reflection, some research with clients and others, and a touch of some magic design dust, here we are.

[00:01:29] We all have a story. Sometimes it's a story we choose, and sometimes it's a story we fall into. That choice can either work for us or against us.

[00:01:39] According to experts Gallup, on average, we spend 81,396 hours at work over the course of our lifetime. And in fact, the only thing we spend more time doing than working is sleeping.

[00:01:51] And yet, as Gallup's research shows, only around one in 10 people in the UK truly love the work they do. And that's the reason for this [00:02:00] podcast - to help the nine out of 10 who dread the thought of weekday mornings.

[00:02:04] Now, I remember myself how that felt before I changed my own career story.

[00:02:09] So if the thought of those weekday mornings fills you with dread, or that quiet voice keeps telling you that there is something better waiting for you, why not join me for a conversation with an inspirational guest about how they've successfully changed their career story.

[00:02:22] Full of ideas, strategies, and insights drawn from these real life stories, the Change Your Story Podcast will help you to discover your why and what else really matters to you, so that you too can create a working life you love.

[00:02:36] Welcome to Change Your Story.
